Community fundraising towards the Stretton Park refurbishment project has almost reached $100,000.

Board Chair, Phill Clifford, said the Maffra aged care facility was extremely grateful to the community for its efforts.

“The project will cost $6.5 million so everyone dollar we can raise for our Building Fund will assist us in delivering this wonderful project to our community,” Mr Clifford said.

The Bushy Park Tractor Pull Committee has given the project $14,500 after making a decision to discontinue its annual event from this year. The event started five years ago, primarily to raise funds for charitable purposes. In that time, it has distributed more than $47,000 to worthy causes.

The Macalister Valley (Newry) Lions Club recently presented a cheque for $500 to the Building Fund, the proceeds of a street stall raffle held in Johnson Street Maffra.

The Maffra Farmlink Group donated a handmade quilt for the Stretton Park Board to use as a raffle prize for the Building Fund.

Mr Clifford said the red and black quilt was a tribute to the Maffra Football Club colours and many hours of dedicated work by committed quilters had gone into producing it.

“We are very grateful to all three of these organisations for helping towards the refurbishment of Stretton Park,” he said.
