Central Gippsland Health’s Critical Care Unit has a vital new piece of equipment, thanks to a generous donation from the Sale Hospital Auxiliary.
The auxiliary donated $7,612 for a telemetry unit, a remote device that continuously monitor’s a patient’s signs, particularly cardiac rhythms. The device transmits electric signals to a central monitor, allowing staff to review the data in real-time.
CGH Interim Chief Executive Officer, Mandy Pusmucans, thanked the auxiliary for the donation which she said would be welcomed by staff and patients alike.
“While this new device has been purchased for CCU, the patient doesn’t have to be located there for the device to work,” Ms Pusmucans said. “The patient can be on the Medical or Surgical Ward, for example, but the information transmitted can be viewed by CCU staff.
“This is of particular value in tracking a patient’s cardiac rhythm when they are moving around.”
