ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES PHYSIOTHERAPY Physiotherapists are highly qualified health professionals who work in with their patients to help them get better and stay well. We work closely with GPs and other health clinicians to plan and manage your treatment. We assess, diagnose, treat and prevent a wide range of health conditions and movement disorders. We also help to repair damage, reduce stiffness and pain, increase mobility and improve your quality of life. Physiotherapy can also help with breathing problems. Our physiotherapy team services hospital inpatients, community outpatients and aged care. We operate from Sale, Maffra, Loch Sport and home visits. EXCERCISE PHYSIOLOGY Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) are university qualified professionals that design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise therapy for individuals with medical conditions, injuries or disabilities. Our Exercise Physiology team services community outpatients and aged care. We operate from Sale and Maffra. PODIATRY AND FOOT CARE Our Podiatrists and Foot Care Team are involved in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the feet and lower limbs. They treat conditions including ingrown toenails, heel and arch pain, skin problems, balance issues and sprains. They can also treat foot problems that arise from underlying medical conditions such as diabetes. Our team currently only provide services to people over 18 years old. Our team operates from Sale, Maffra, Heyfield, Loch Sport and Rosedale, providing community and aged care services. OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY Occupational therapy is assessment and treatment through the specific use of selected activity for those who are temporarily or permanently disabled by physical or mental illness, or by social or developmental problems. SPEECH PATHOLOGY A speech pathologist is a healthcare professional who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of communication and/or swallowing difficulties. They are trained to help people who have difficulty speaking, listening, understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering, swallowing, and using their voice. Speech pathologists are university-educated allied health professionals with expertise in this field. Our speech pathology team services hospital inpatients, community outpatients and aged care. We provide services in our clinic in Sale and in the home setting. Our team also work collaboratively with educators in kindergarten and childcare settings. DIETITIANS Dietitians are University qualified health professionals who are passionate about optimising health through nutrition and food. Therapies and education provided by dietitians employed through CGH are based on sound scientific evidence and are tailored to your specific needs. Our knowledgeable dietitians can assist supporting your nutrition for any life stage, from preconception right through to end of life (including Aged Care). Come and see us for a nutrition check-up for your general health or for specific support in your management of your health condition such as diabetes, high cholesterol or food allergies. We also have your whole family covered with dietitians who have completed additional training in nutrition for infants and kids! All you have to do is call Reception on 03 5143 8560 and request an appointment – although we do prefer you to provide us with a GP health summary/referral it is not essential. Social work is a helping profession dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities. CGH Social Workers provide counselling, support, information, advocacy, and referrals for patients and their families as they adjust to hospital, cope with changed health needs and determine the most appropriate care to meet their needs. Social Workers focus on the whole person and their social circumstances by advocating for patient and family/carer rights, improving access to care, and ensuring dignity, choice and self-determination. What can Social Work provide? Counselling and problem solving Social workers are available to provide counselling for you, your partner or your family. They will discuss any issues that concern you, offer suggestions for you to consider, and together find ways to manage the situation. Advocacy Sometimes hospital systems can be complex and confusing. Social Workers understand this and can assist you in identifying and advocating for your needs to negotiate the best possible outcome for you. Crisis and trauma intervention Things don’t always go according to plan. Social workers can provide emotional support in difficult and unexpected circumstances. Information Social workers can provide information about resources available to you, both within the hospital as well as in your community. Discharge planning As part of the health care team, social workers can link you with community supports if you need them when you go home from hospital. Social Work is available Monday – Friday 8.00am – 4.30pm The Koori Hospital Liaison offers service to the Koori community which enhances the inpatient experience. CHILDREN'S SERVICES CHILDREN'S PHYSIOTHERAPY We currently provide physiotherapy to children from 0 to 18. The types of services we can provide include: Altered walking patterns Developmental delay and prematurity – link closely with Monash Children’s Altered head shape – link closely with Royal Children’s Hospital Altered feet positioning Chronic chest conditions Fractures, sprains, strains General rehabilitation Hydrotherapy NDIS clients Please send referrals to information.intake@cghs.com.au or call 03 5143 8560 for further information. Currently we are unable to treat individuals under work cover, TAC (Transport Accident Commission), DVA (Department of Veterans Affairs) and do not accept Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referrals. We are also unable to provide private insurance rebate. CHILDREN'S EXCERCISE PHYSIOLOGY We currently provide physiotherapy to children from 0-18 years. COMMUNITY SERVICES The Division of Community Services operates from various sites across the Shire of Wellington, including Sale, Maffra, Rosedale and Loch Sport. Many services are provided in the home. Additionally, a range of community venues are utilised to enhance service access for our community. MATERNITY AND NEWBORN SERVICES Take a Virtual Tour of Maternity Services at Central Gippsland Health. Central Gippsland Health delivers approximately 450 babies each year. It is staffed by a specialist team of midwives, obstetricians, and paediatricians who work together to provide you and your baby with the highest quality of care. It has a Special Care Nursery , with high and low care cots, providing care for babies who require incubator care either because they are sick or pre-term, or have complications requiring oxygen therapy or cardio-respiratory monitoring. The nursery caters for babies as young as 34 weeks. Lactation staff assist with the establishment and maintenance of breastfeeding. Maternity services include: Pre-admission clinic Antenatal care program at the WHIMS (Women’s Health & Integrated Maternity Services) clinic Antenatal education and breast feeding classes Antenatal admissions and monitoring for at risk conditions Birth suite specialised care by a midwife Postnatal care Domiciliary care – where a midwife visits following discharge Breastfeeding support services Education and training for students, midwives and medical staff Allied Health support including social work and physiotherapy We want to make your hospital stay as smooth as possible.
