ANNUAL REPORT ANNUAL REPORT 23/24 ROOM OPTIONS SERVICES WE OFFER RESPITE SERVICES Wilson Lodge Aged Care provides respite care to eligible persons. Eligible persons are entitled to 9 weeks (63 nights) of respite per financial year. There are respite beds available which provide the same level of service as permanent care. Fees and charges are as specified by the Department of Health & Ageing. EMERGENCY RESPITE Wilson Lodge Aged Care can at times support emergency respite depending on bed availability. We work closely with acute and community health services to support the needs of our aged population. PERMANENT CARE The facility offers care with ageing in place to meet the needs of the residents of Sale District and beyond. Wilson Lodge Aged Care offers quality, individualised care to our residents. Staff are proud of our friendly, pleasant environment and the manner in which our residents are respected and supported. Individualised personal care is planned and delivered through continued consultation and review of personal care needs and choices. Family consultation occurs regularly as indicated or requested. Resident health and comfort is enhanced through the provision of more specialised care as indicated. This includes care such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, palliative care, dementia care, occupational therapy, wound management and more. Residents can choose their doctor of choice in Sale. This needs to be confirmed prior to admission. Local Medical support ensures 24 hour, 7 day per week access to a GP for emergency and also periodic review as indicated. All resident medication must be presented in Webster packs (Unit Dose 7). Resident lifestyle is supported through our Diversional Therapist and volunteer team who offer various activities, events and personal programs to support individual and groups of residents. PALLIATIVE CARE Our Palliative Care partnership with CGH is deeply committed to providing compassionate palliative care that focuses on comfort, dignity, and quality of life for our residents. Our experienced and caring team works closely with families to ensure that each individual’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met during this important stage of life. RESIDENTIAL INREACH Better@Home services aim to deliver more specialised care closer to home and in the persons setting of choice. As one of the Better@Home services, Residential In Reach provides specialist assessment services by a Nurse Consultant, to people living in Residential Aged Care Facilities, which in turn, prevents avoidable presentations to the Hospital Emergency Department. Residential In Reach Nurse Consultants may visit and provide this specialist care; which is done in partnership with the Facility staff and the persons own General Practitioner. It is a team approach to supporting care in that persons’ setting of choice – Better@Home! If the person requires hospital admission, this decision is made with the person and their care team. Residential In Reach is NOT an emergency service. TELEHEALTH We embrace innovative solutions to enhance the care we provide to our residents, including the use of telehealth services. This technology allows us to connect residents with specialist healthcare professionals remotely, ensuring timely consultations and ongoing medical support without the need for travel. Telehealth enables our team to coordinate care more efficiently, access expert advice, and provide residents with a higher level of healthcare, all while maintaining their comfort and convenience. WOUND CARE We are fortunate to partner with the skilled Wound Care Nurses at Central Gippsland Health (CGH) to provide specialised care for residents with wound management needs. DENTAL SERVICES Central Gippsland Health Services operates a public dental clinic in Sale, administered by a team of friendly dental professionals. Our dental clinic is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on all weekdays, except public holidays, and all enquiries may be directed to 03 5143 8130 . The clinic provides a comprehensive range of dental services for eligible adults and children. Including: General check-ups Extractions Root canal treatments Dentures Crowns Emergency care Who is eligible for public dental? Adults with a current Health Care or a Concession Card All children aged 12 years old and below Children aged 13-17 on a current Health Care or a Concession Card, or recipients of the Child Dental Benefit from Medicare How does it work? Eligible adult patients can add their names to our General Waitlist and will be sent a letter once they have reached the top of the waitlist to access care. After completing General Care, eligible adult patients requiring dentures can add their names to our Denture Waitlist and will be sent a letter once they have reached the top of the waitlist to access care. Eligible children are booked for the next available appointment. What are the fees for public dental? Eligible Adults $31.50 fee per visit, to a maximum of $124 for a general course of care Includes an examination and all general dental treatment $31 flat fee for an emergency course of care Includes assessment and treatment of the tooth, gum or denture that is causing pain $76 per denture, capped at $152 for full upper and lower dentures. Children There is no fee for children who attend our clinic. Fee Exemptions Providers of public dental care do not charge fees to: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people People who are homeless or at risk of homelessness Refugees and asylum seekers All people in youth justice custodial care People registered with mental health or disability services, supported by a letter of recommendation from their case manager or a special developmental school People receiving care from undergraduate students People experiencing financial hardship (as assessed by a qualified staff member). OUR DENTISTS Dr Gregory Steel- Dentist Greg originally grew up in Canberra, before moving to Melbourne for his dental training. He graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Medical Science (First Class Honours), before completing a Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Melbourne in 2021. He enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, particularly focusing on preventative and holistic care. He is committed to providing high quality care for all his patients, and he strives to deliver clear communication throughout the appointment. Greg frequently attends professional development courses and online lectures to broaden his knowledge and skills. Greg has a friendly and easy-going nature, which creates a stress-free environment, even for the most anxious patients. Outside of dentistry, Greg enjoys an active lifestyle. He regularly attends the Sale Parkrun, and he also plays cricket and golf in the local area.

ADDICTION AND HARM REDUCTION SERVICE Addiction and Harm Reduction Service Supporting those within the Wellington Shire Community who have issues with alcohol and substance use. The AOD Harm Reduction Service is here to assist those with AOD dependency, or addiction, whilst promoting harm reduction strategies that will contribute to improved health for the individual and the community. Available to all within the community, there are three main services provided: Provision of Needle and Syringe products. Addiction Recovery support. Promotion of good sexual health Needle And Syringe Program (NSP) CGH Community Services provides, free of charge, a range of NSP equipment that helps to prevent the spread of Blood Borne Viruses such as Hepatitis C. This includes fit packs, sharps disposal containers and a wide range of specific barrels and needles. The full range of equipment is available on request from the Community Services 1st floor reception office during office hours (Mon – Fri 8.30am – 4.30pm). Fit packs are available 24/7 from the free of charge vending machine, along with a sharps disposal machine, close to the main entrance of the Community Services building. Out of office hours fit packs are also available on request from the Emergency Department reception. Addiction Recovery Support CGH Community Services run a Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART) Recovery meeting every Wednesday afternoon from 1.30 – 3.30pm. This is held in the conference room on the ground floor of Community Services building. No referral is required to join this support group which is facilitated by an AOD qualified staff member. The aim is to support those going through the addiction recovery process and to help prevent relapse for those who have been able to reduce or stop their substance or alcohol intake. Promotion of Good Sexual Health This service aims to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infection within the community by providing condoms free of charge. These can be obtained at the reception offices of Community Services, Central Gippsland Health (CGH) Emergency Department and Sale Mental Health Services. CGH also provides condoms free of charge to community support agencies in Stratford, Maffra and Rosedale. MATERNITY AND NEWBORN SERVICES Take a Virtual Tour of Maternity Services at Central Gippsland Health. Central Gippsland Health delivers approximately 450 babies each year. It is staffed by a specialist team of midwives, obstetricians, and paediatricians who work together to provide you and your baby with the highest quality of care. It has a Special Care Nursery , with high and low care cots, providing care for babies who require incubator care either because they are sick or pre-term, or have complications requiring oxygen therapy or cardio-respiratory monitoring. The nursery caters for babies as young as 34 weeks. Lactation staff assist with the establishment and maintenance of breastfeeding. PETER SKEELS Peter has over 36 years’ experience in the provision of financial, commercial, and strategic advice within the utility and service provision industries. His past roles have included Financial Planning and Strategy, Chief Financial Officer and General Manager, Customer Services. Peter is currently employed with Gippsland Water where his substantive role is General Manager, Operations. In recent years, Peter has been extensively involved in the justification, financing, construction and delivery of the Gippsland Water Factory project, a $230m advanced wastewater treatment and recycling project located near Morwell, Victoria. Peter holds a Bachelor of Business, Monash University with majors in Accounting and Economics and is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants (FCPA). He has held the following voluntary appointments, Past Chairman, Gippsland Branch CPA 1998 – 2004, Director and Deputy Chairman, Gippsland Grammar School, Sale 2004 – 2013 and Director Heyfield Hospital Incorporated 2014 – present. Peter’s primary recreational interests revolve around scuba diving where he is recognised by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer and with Technical Diving International as an Instructor. Appointed to the Board in 2014 JOHN SUNDERMANN John was educated at Heyfield primary school and Gippsland Grammar, spending a semester at the University of Illinois in year 12. On finishing school, John has worked on the family farm at Heyfield running angus cattle stud, a poll Dorset sheep stud and a dairy farm. John has been President of the Catholic College (Sale) school Board, Secretary/Treasurer of the Seaton Fire Brigade, Secretary and Treasurer of the Heyfield Golf Club and a member of the Macalister Consultative Committee for Irrigators. Appointed to the Board in 2014. RUSSELL MACQUEEN Russell is a semi-retired Anglican Minister. He has been Rector of Orbost, Yarram and Maffra. He was also Archdeacon of East Gippsland and a Police Chaplain. In 2011 he retired from full time ministry and retrained in paramedics. He currently works for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Victoria. Appointed to the Board in 2001. SARAH CHRISTIAN Sarah grew up in Heyfield and completed a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University. After travelling overseas and working at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London UK, she returned to Australia to complete a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Flinders University in Adelaide. Sarah completed her specialist training with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2014. She enjoys teaching and also works part time for Eastern Victoria GP Training as a Medical Educator and Training Advisor. She is passionate about addressing the rural shortage of Doctors and medical services. Sarah has three beautiful children and loves spending time with her extended family. Appointed to the Board in 2017. LIZ DRIFFIELD Liz Driffield is a Board Member of Heyfield Hospital, bringing her background in administration, fundraising, and community service to support the hospital’s mission. Having worked across local government, not for profit organisations and in the education sector, she is passionate about strengthening services that make a difference in people’s lives. As someone who grew up in Heyfield and a long time Gippsland local, Elizabeth values the role Heyfield Hospital plays in the community and is committed to ensuring it continues to provide compassionate care for residents. GLEN WILLIAMSON Since 2019, Glen has been a Commercial Executive looking after 7 small global businesses in the role of Chief Operations Officer for a private entrepreneur with a combined turnover of $50 million dollars, covering all facets of operations such as Risk Strategy, Mergers and Acquisitions and Financial Governance in industries as varied as Technology Hardware, Digital Software Services, Motor Sport and Meal Replacement Shakes across a multitude of geographies. Prior to that, Glen was a Global Procurement professional for more than 20 years. Glen brings experience across the Retail, Pharmacy Distribution, Not for Profit, Finance, IT, Facilities Management and Telecommunications Technology industries ns many times along the journey. Glen also has an interest in Mental Health and is currently studying to gain a Diploma of Counselling with the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors. Appointed as an observer in 2024. After finishing year 12, he worked with a Timber Import/Export company in Melbourne for 4 years before returning to work in the family business. Eligible persons are entitled to 9 weeks (63 nights) of respite per financial year. There are respite beds available which provide the same level of service as permanent care. Fees and charges are as specified by the Department of Health & Ageing. EMERGENCY RESPITE Laurina Lodge Aged Care can at times support emergency respite depending on bed availability. We work closely with acute and community health services to support the needs of our aged population. PERMANENT CARE The facility offers care with ageing in place to meet the needs of the residents of Maffra District and beyond. Laurina Lodge Wing Aged Care offers quality, individualised care to our residents. Staff are proud of our friendly, pleasant environment and the manner in which our residents are respected and supported. Individualised personal care is planned and delivered through continued consultation and review of personal care needs and choices. Family consultation occurs regularly as indicated or requested. Resident health and comfort is enhanced through the provision of more specialised care as indicated. This includes care such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, palliative care, dementia care, occupational therapy, wound management and more. Residents can choose their doctor of choice in Maffra from either of two local clinics. This needs to be confirmed prior to admission. Local Medical support ensures 24 hour, 7 day per week access to a GP for emergency and also periodic review as indicated. All resident medication must be presented in Webster packs (Unit Dose 7). Resident lifestyle is supported through our Diversional Therapist and volunteer team who offer various activities, events and personal programs to support individual and groups of residents. Residential In Reach Nurse Consultants may visit and provide this specialist care; which is done in partnership with the Facility staff and the persons own General Practitioner. It is a team approach to supporting care in that persons’ setting of choice – Better@Home! If the person requires hospital admission, this decision is made with the person and their care team. NDIS WHAT DOES THE NDIS DO? PROVIDING FUNDING TO ELIGIBLE PEOPLE BASED ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to eligible people with disability to gain more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and an improved quality of life. Every NDIS participant will have an individual plan that lists their goals and the funding they have received. NDIS participants use their funding to purchase supports and services that will help them achieve their goals. Everyone has different goals, but they could include things like getting and keeping a job, making friends or participating in a local community activity. NDIS participants control the support they receive, when they receive it, and who provides it. WHO IS ELIGIBLE? 1. Are you under 65 years old? To access the NDIS you must be younger than 65 years old at the time you apply. 2. Do you have Australian residency? To access the NDIS you must live in Australia and be: an Australian citizen, OR a permanent resident, OR hold a Protected Special Category Visa 3. Do you usually need support from another person or use special equipment to complete everyday tasks because of a permanent and significant disability? 4. To access the NDIS you need to have a permanent and significant disability that stops you from doing everyday things by yourself. This includes disabilities that are episodic such as people who have a significant and lifelong psychosocial disability. 5. Do you need some supports now to reduce your support needs in the future? To access the NDIS to receive early intervention supports you must: have a permanent disability, or be a child younger than 9 years with a significant developmental delay requiring a certain level of intervention, and There needs to be evidence that getting support now will help you by: reducing the impacts of your disability or developmental delay and building your skills and independence. WHAT SERVICES WILL CGH PROVIDE UNDER NDIS? CGH has registered with the NDIS to provide the following services: Early Childhood Supports – this includes all Allied Health services for children younger than 9 years. Therapeutic Supports – this includes all Allied Health services for people between 9 and 65 years. Home modification –Occupational Therapy Assistive Products -Household Task – Occupational Therapy Communications& Information Equipment – Speech Pathologist Exercise Physiology/ Personal Training – Exercise Physiologist Personal Mobility Equipment – Occupational Therapy We can still provide other services to the participant in addition to the ones we are registered to provide under NDIS. PREGNANCY CARE CLINIC HOW TO ACCESS THIS CLINIC Referral from your GP A referral from your GP is required for all patients wanting access to the clinic. Please include the below Maternity Referral Form: Download the Maternity Referral Form A copy of all available pathology and ultrasound reports should be included. For Antenatal Patients it is recommended that the below antenatal screening tests be included: FBE Blood Group and Antibody Screen Rubella Hepatitis B Hepatitis C HIV Syphilis MSU Downs Screening VITD (for high risk group) WHAT TO BRING Patients must provide their Medicare card at all appointments. Antenatal Patients are required to provide both their Medicare Card and Antenatal Care Record at all appointments. SERVICES AVAILABLE Antenatal Clinic Gynaecology Antenatal Pre Admission Service (ANPAS) All patients birthing at CGH, or those birthing elsewhere that may present at CGH during their antenatal period, are required to attend ANPAS appointments (between 16-20 weeks gestation) at no cost. During this appointment, the midwife will provide essential pregnancy information to you and your family, including information about having a baby at CGH. The midwife also obtains information from you to guide care and assist in planning additional services to meet your individual needs.
