HOSPITAL CARE Patients admitted to Maffra Hospital will stay in either a single or double room. Upon admission to Maffra Hospital, a detailed health assessment will be undertaken when you arrive by members of your health care team. You will be cared for by your doctor, qualified nurses, and members of the allied health team. Maffra Hospital also offers Palliative Care and Geriatric Evaluation Management services.

VISITORS GUIDELINES Visiting hours are from 10am – 12pm and 2pm – 7pm. If you’re visiting a patient at Sale Hospital, it’s important to keep to our visiting hours so patients can get plenty of rest. For patients, hospital is a place for treatment and recovery. We have generous visiting hours broken up by a rest period in the middle of the day. These two hours of rest help to give your loved ones time to recover. Don’t hesitate to contact the hospital to discuss when might be a good time to visit your loved one. Patients may be away from their room during visiting hours for tests and other treatment or therapies. Knowing this in advance means you will not make the trip to the hospital and have a long wait to see the patient. We ask that, where possible, there are not more than two visitors per patient at one time. This is in consideration of other patients, and to allow adequate space for staff to provide patient care. Visitors that are exempt from visiting hours include: Birthing women or patients in maternity care – one partner or support person can remain for an unlimited time For children under 18 years, two parents/guardians can remain for an unlimited time. One Parent/guardian can stay overnight; and Patients at end of life have no limit to the number of visitors per day, or how long they can stay All visitors: Must be free of COVID-19 symptoms (other than symptoms caused by health condition or medication) Must be 7 days post testing positive for COVID and be symptom free Must be well with no respiratory or gastro symptoms. Visitors may be required to wear face masks during periods of high community transmission or during COVID outbreaks in ward areas or residential care facilities. Children under 12 years old are exempt from wearing a mask as are those with a medical exemption. Hand Hygiene: Visitors shall perform hand hygiene on entry and exit to the health service / aged care facility and to individual wards or rooms. Visiting COVID positive patients or suspected COVID positive patients: If the patient is suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used by visitors with staff to facilitate safe donning/doffing. Aged Care Sites There are no specific visiting hours for our aged care facilities. All visitors should: Be well and free of respiratory illness Strongly encouraged to take a rapid antigen test before entry Encouraged to wear a mask during their visit Not visit if COVID positive, for at least 7 days and be symptom free Visitors may be exempt from entry requirements if they: are a person visiting for the purpose of an end-of-life visit are a person providing urgent support for a resident’s immediate physical, cognitive or emotional wellbeing, where it is not practicable for the person to take a COVID-19 rapid antigen test prior to entering the care facility

SPECIALIST OUTPATIENT CLINICS DIALYSIS The Dialysis Unit, a satellite centre for St Vincent’s Hospital, provides haemodialysis for people in Central and East Gippsland as well as visitors to the region. There is an emphasis on education and training of patients and staff, and involvement in community health awareness programs. To enquire about regular or holiday dialysis, contact staff on 03 5143 8170 . ONCOLOGY The Oncology Department operates within the hospital to provide support and administer chemotherapy treatments to patients. It works in close association with the Medical Unit, Central Gippsland Health Palliative Care Services, and the Gippsland Regional Integrated Cancer Service. A palliative care facility located in the Medical Unit is available to patients who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, where family and carers who wish to continue caring for the patient receive appropriate nursing support. PHARMACY The Pharmacy Department is staffed by pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The department is open from 8.30am until 5pm Monday to Friday, with an on-call pharmacist providing after hours and weekend services. The wide range of services offered include: Imprest drug distribution Clinical ward pharmacy services IV additives and Parental Nutrition Cytotoxic drug preparations e.g. chemotherapy Radiopharmaceutical preparations Drug information Drug trials Outpatient dispensing Medical and nursing staff education Support pharmacy services to smaller hospitals and private hostels PATHOLOGY (PROVIDED BY DOREVITCH PATHOLOGY) The Pathology Department provides a range of diagnostic tests to both inpatient and community based patients. The department is open for outpatients from 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday. An after hours ‘on-call’ service is provided to the hospital.

HEYFIELD HOSPITAL BOARD OF MANAGEMENT RAELENE HANRATTY, CHAIR Raelene has been a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors since July 2015. Raelene and her husband Dennis dairy farm at Upper Maffra West where they have raised 7 children. Raelene is dedicated to the local community and has held many executive committee positions on various organisations. She is currently the Deputy Chair of Southern Rural Water’s ‘Macalister Customer Consultative Committee’, the secretary of the Heyfield Tennis Club, and the treasurer of the Nambrok Newry Junior Football Club. Raelene is committed to ensuring that Heyfield Hospital and Laurina Lodge provide quality services to the Heyfield and District community. Appointed to the Board in 2015. ANNE WOOTON, VICE CHAIR Ann has been in executive and general management since 1998. Ann’s career has been in professional services, firstly in Australian law firms in knowledge and operational management, moving to the compliance and risk management services industry in executive management roles. Her most recent executive role was in the Property services industry and as an executive director of a global risk management company. She has worked with clients from major Australian banks to Fortune 500 organisations globally. Ann was employed by SAI Global from 2000 – 2017, an ASX-200 public company until acquired by private equity and delisted in December 2016. For the majority of this time, Ann was in executive management positions in Australia and the USA. Firstly, as General Manager of the APAC Compliance Division, followed by President of the Americas Compliance Division. Ann was most recently the Director of the Property Division achieving significant year-on-year growth, with annual revenue in excess of $180m. Ann was also an Executive Director and member of EXCO of this global organisation. Ann has recently retired to Gippsland in country Victoria and is on a steep learning curve in developing a very different skills set! Ann has previously served on not-for-profit boards: The Governance Risk & Compliance Institute – a board representing the Compliance and Risk professional industry in Australia The Good Samaritan Board – a board overseeing an accommodation shelter in Melbourne for women and children who seek refuge from domestic violence Professionally, Ann is interested in non-executive Director roles in Victoria and NSW and consulting in her areas of expertise. Ann and her husband Morris Bellamy have formed a consulting partnership called Cretata Executives. Appointed to the Board in 2019. PETER SKEELS Peter has over 36 years’ experience in the provision of financial, commercial, and strategic advice within the utility and service provision industries. His past roles have included Financial Planning and Strategy, Chief Financial Officer and General Manager, Customer Services. Peter is currently employed with Gippsland Water where his substantive role is General Manager, Operations. In recent years, Peter has been extensively involved in the justification, financing, construction and delivery of the Gippsland Water Factory project, a $230m advanced wastewater treatment and recycling project located near Morwell, Victoria. Peter holds a Bachelor of Business, Monash University with majors in Accounting and Economics and is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants (FCPA). He has held the following voluntary appointments, Past Chairman, Gippsland Branch CPA 1998 – 2004, Director and Deputy Chairman, Gippsland Grammar School, Sale 2004 – 2013 and Director Heyfield Hospital Incorporated 2014 – present. Peter’s primary recreational interests revolve around scuba diving where he is recognised by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer and with Technical Diving International as an Instructor. Appointed to the Board in 2014. JOHN SUNDERANN John was educated at Heyfield primary school and Gippsland Grammar, spending a semester at the University of Illinois in year 12. On finishing school, John has worked on the family farm at Heyfield running angus cattle stud, a poll Dorset sheep stud and a dairy farm. John has been President of the Catholic College (Sale) school Board, Secretary/Treasurer of the Seaton Fire Brigade, Secretary and Treasurer of the Heyfield Golf Club and a member of the Macalister Consultative Committee for Irrigators. Appointed to the Board in 2014. SARAH CHRISTIAN Sarah grew up in Heyfield and completed a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University. After travelling overseas and working at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London UK, she returned to Australia to complete a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Flinders University in Adelaide. Sarah completed her specialist training with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2014. She enjoys teaching and also works part time for Eastern Victoria GP Training as a Medical Educator and Training Advisor. She is passionate about addressing the rural shortage of Doctors and medical services. Sarah has three beautiful children and loves spending time with her extended family. Appointed to the Board in 2017. LIZ DRIFFIELD Appointed to the Board in 2023. GLEN WILLIAMSON (OBSERVER) Since 2019, Glen has been a Commercial Executive looking after 7 small global businesses in the role of Chief Operations Officer for a private entrepreneur with a combined turnover of $50 million dollars, covering all facets of operations such as Risk Strategy, Mergers and Acquisitions and Financial Governance in industries as varied as Technology Hardware, Digital Software Services, Motor Sport and Meal Replacement Shakes across a multitude of geographies. Prior to that, Glen was a Global Procurement professional for more than 20 years. Glen brings experience across the Retail, Pharmacy Distribution, Not for Profit, Finance, IT, Facilities Management and Telecommunications Technology industries ns many times along the journey. Glen also has an interest in Mental Health and is currently studying to gain a Diploma of Counselling with the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors. Appointed as an observer in 2024. DAVID GRAHAM (OBSERVER) David was educated at Heyfield Primary and then Gippsland Grammar for his secondary years. After finishing year 12, he worked with a Timber Import/Export company in Melbourne for 4 years before returning to work in the family business. David has been Sole Director of Vern Graham Pty Ltd since July 2000. He served as a Board Member of Heyfield & District Community Financial Services for 11 years, including 3 years as Treasurer. Being a keen sportsman, David has served on committees of numerous local clubs and community organisations. Appointed as an observer in 2024. MARY MANESCU (OBSERVER) Mary is the CEO of Omeo District Health (ODH). Prior to her appointment at ODH, she held a range of clinical nursing and senior leadership roles in the private and public health sector. She also worked extensively for the Department of Health (Victoria) in various areas including regulation, major capital works, performance and information management. Mary holds a Master of Health Services Management and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Beyond her substantive role, Mary is an accreditation surveyor with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards Appointed as an observer in 2024.

COMMUNITY NURSING COMMUNITY PALLIATIVE CARE Our community-based palliative care nursing service provides compassionate, person-centred support focused on quality of life, comfort, and dignity for people living with a terminal illness. From symptom management to end-of-life care, our experienced team offers practical support, nursing care, and expert advice to help individuals and their loved ones navigate this challenging time. We are here to ensure no one faces this journey alone. Generally, the needs of the patient and their carers’ are higher at end of life and increased services and support are essential to ensure quality, coordinated care. Our Community Palliative Care Service offers a service 7 days a week, with on call available overnight and assists people to die with dignity in the environment of their own choice. DISTRICT NURSING SERVICES Available to people of all ages with any medical problem or disability who choose to be cared for in their home. The aim is to encourage clients to achieve a level of independence that will allow them to remain at home. Patients need to be referred by their GP or health facility and can be contacted on 03 5143 8155 . A wide range of services is offered including: Wound management Continence care – leg bag, SPC and IDC changes Leg ulcer management Diabetes management – in conjunction with diabetes educators Stomal care Medication management Observation monitoring (with parameters) Central Venous Catheters including PICCS & Ports Chemotherapy disconnects The nursing team are based at Sale in the Community Services Building and provide services across all areas of Wellington Shire, with the exception of Yarram, which is supported through Yarram District Health Service. Services are provided at the Loch Sport Community Health Centre, located at 233 National Park Road Loch Sport 3851. The Community Health Centre reception operates from 9am until 1pm Monday to Friday. Services provided at the Community Health Centre include a district nurse, podiatry, footcare and allied health services. The Health Centre can be contacted on 51460780. PROSTATE CANCER SPECIALIST NURSE Our Prostate Cancer Nurse provides dedicated support to men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their families. They offer expert information, coordinate care, and provide emotional and practical support throughout the cancer journey—from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. Working closely with the healthcare team, our nurse ensure patients are informed, empowered, and supported at every stage. This position funded partly by Big Bloke’s BBQ working under the Prostate Foundations Framework to provide education and support to men and their families in any stage of the prostate cancer journey. This service is provided two days a week. MCGRATH BREAST CARE NURSE Our McGrath Breast Care Nurse is a specially trained nurse who provides expert care and unwavering support to individuals diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia. Funded by the McGrath Foundation, they offer free, personalised care from diagnosis through treatment and beyond, helping patients and their families navigate the emotional, physical, and practical challenges of breast cancer. Their role is vital in ensuring no one faces breast cancer alone. This service is provided three days a week. DIABETES EDUCATORS Our Diabetes Educators specialise in supporting people living with diabetes. They provide personalised education, practical advice, and ongoing support to help individuals manage their condition effectively. Working as part of a healthcare team, Diabetes Educators empower patients to make informed decisions about their lifestyle, medication, and blood glucose monitoring to improve long-term health outcomes. Services include: Inpatient and community management and education of patients with all types of diabetes Assistance with DKA management and education Insulin pump start ups Gestational diabetes Clinic Insulin Stabilisation Clinics CONTINENCE SERVICE Our Continence Nurse provides expert care, education, and support to individuals experiencing bladder control issues. They develop personalised management plans to improve continence, enhance quality of life, and promote dignity. Working across hospitals, community settings, and aged care, Continence Nurses play a key role in prevention, early intervention, and ongoing support for people of all ages.
