Thanks to the generosity of the Maffra Lions Club and the Maffra Hospital Auxiliary, Maffra Hospital has a new lifting device to be used to safely move immobile patients.

Central Gippsland Health Chief Executive Officer, Mark Dykgraaf, praised both organisations for their support. The Lions club has contributed $3760 and the auxiliary $2280.

Mr Dykgraaf said the new Hoverjack lifting device was used in aged care to safely move immobile patients, especially after a fall, from the floor, bed or chair. The device uses an inflatable mat to gently lift the patient, reducing strain on caregivers and minimising the risk of injury to both the resident/patient and the caregiver.

“Late last year, we found the existing Hoverjack, more than 10 years old, needed to be replaced,” he added. “It was wonderful that these organisations offered to help fund the new machine.”

Lions Club Past President, Russell Napper, said his club raised money from a number of activities including raffles and a percentage of Lions Christmas Cake sales. “We have an enthusiastic club of 29 members who are pleased to support our local hospital,” he said.

Auxiliary President, Ruth Ralph, said the auxiliary had been running for more than 50 years and was a great support for the hospital. “We hold lots of small activities including raffles and donations,” she said.
