MR. RADHA NAIR

Clinical Head of Unit

Mr Nair studied Medicine in India and subsequently attained surgical fellowship in both India and the United Kingdom. Mr. Nair continued to work internationally before accepting the role of Senior Consultant Surgeon at Alice Springs Hospital in Northern Territory in 2012. During this time, he attained his fellowship with Royal Australasian College

of Surgeons (RACS). Mr Nair has a broad spectrum of surgical expertise in trauma, laparoscopic surgery, thyroid, breast and emergency vascular procedures including hernia, gallbladder, varicose veins and skin lesions, colorectal surgery. His specialties include Thyroid, breast, laparoscopic surgeries, skin lesions including flaps and grafts, paediatric and adult circumcision, correction of undescended testis, varicose vein surgery, hernia surgery, gall bladder removal, hand surgeries like ganglion removal, carpel tunnel release, dupuytrens contracture release, haemorrhoidectomy-open and stapled, fissure and fistula surgeries.

Mr Nair has been the Head of Unit of Surgery at CGHS since March 2019. Mr Nair is a teacher and guide for gastroscopy and colonoscopy and performs all interventions including, polyp removal, banding of haemorrhoids, arrest of GI bleeds, endovariceal banding, PEG tube insertion etc. Mr Nair is a GESA member and supervisor for trainees. He is a member of Academy of Surgical Educator of RACS, Member of Surgical Oncology of RACS, mentor for surgical trainees of RACS. Mr Nair also holds credentials for Gippsland Breast Unit and an active participant of GRICS (multidisciplinary team for cancers). He has accreditation as a member for Surgical Board, General Surgeons Australia, Site supervisor VIC-COL(value in care-colonoscopy)

 

MR. PAUL STRAUSS

Paul is a General Surgeon with a particular interest in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery, Breast Surgery and other aspects of General Surgery including Laparoscopic  Cholecytectomy, Laparoscopic Appendecetomy, and Laparoscopic Incisional and Groin Hernia Repairs.

 

MR. MASIMBA NYANDOWE

Attaining his primary medical qualification from  Godfrey Huggins School of Medicine (now the Zimbabwe College of Health Science) Dr Masimba Nyandowe is an Australian trained Specialist Laparoscopic, Breast, General Surgeon and Endoscopist.

Masimba holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Zimbabwe, a Master of Public Health from Deakin University, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

He comes to Central Gippsland Health from Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane where he has worked since August 2021.

Masimba maintains a public appointment with Central Gippsland Health providing specialist Breast, Thyroid, Laparoscopic, General and Endoscopic surgery and is taking new referrals. Masimba treats a broad spectrum of surgical illness with special interests in laparoscopic surgery for bowel, hernia and gallbladder conditions as well as treating invasive and benign breast conditions in a multidisciplinary setting in a wholistic approach.

 

DR AMANDA YOUNG

Dr Amanda Young trained at Royal Prince Albert Hosptial and has a fellowship with RACS. Dr Amanda Young’s surgical expertise include trauma, laparoscopic surgery, thyroid, breast and emergency vascular procedures including hernia, gallbladder, varicose veins and skin lesions, colorectal surgery, thyroid, breast, laparoscopic surgeries, skin lesions including flaps and grafts, paediatric and adult circumcision, correction of undescended testis, varicose vein surgery, hernia surgery, hand surgeries like ganglion removal, carpel tunnel release, dupuytrens contracture release, haemorrhoidectomy-open and stapled, fissure and fistula surgeries, general and emergency paediatric surgeries.

Dr Amanda Young commenced with CGH 5 February 2024 and has over 20 years experience.

 

 

 

General Medicine

DR VITTAL JADHAV

Clinical Head of Unit

Vittal has completed his Post Graduate Medical training in United Kingdom and has worked nearly 20 years in National Health Service United Kingdom. Prior to joining CGH, Vittal was Head of Service for Acute Medicine at the University Hospitals of Leicester, United Kingdom. He has obtained postgraduate qualifications of Membership of Royal College Physicians of United Kingdom and Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians United Kingdom. He has been a trained professional Mentor, Supervisor and Appraiser. His areas of interest are General and Acute Internal medicine. He has a special interest in Quality Improvement, Safe and Effective Delivery of Medical Patient Care Services. He has special interests in Acute and General Medicine. He will be consulting from CGH Consulting Suites on Mondays and Wednesdays. He would be happy to receive referrals from General Practitioners, Specialist community Nurses, Better@Home team and Values Based Health Care Practitioners.

Currently Vittal provides acute support to medical and critical care inpatients in addition to General Medicine outpatient clinics.

 

DR. NIZAM UDDIN 

Dr A.K.M Nizam Uddin is a Consultant Respiratory & Sleep Medicine specialist and General physician at Central Gippsland Hospital. Dr Nizam completed his basic Physician training at Box Hill Hospital and Monash Medical Centre he completed his advanced training in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine from St. Vincent’s Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. He also received his fellowship in Internal Medicine and trained at Monash Health. he then completed a Clinical Research Fellowship year at Monash Lung & Sleep Centre. His special interests include difficult to treat Asthma, COPD, vocal cord dysfunction, lung cancer and complex sleep related breathing disorders. He is currently researching difficult to treat asthma and vocal cord dysfunction patients for their proper phenotyping. Dr Nizam is also currently running a research project along with Monash Dental team for approaching a reasonable treatment plan for mild to moderate sleep disorder patients.

 

DR. MINZ CHEAH

Minz completed his MBBS at Melbourne University in 2006 and continued his junior medical training at Eastern Health. He joined the Royal Australasian College of Physician in 2010 obtaining fellowship in 2016. He then completed his advanced training and maintained his affiliation with Monash Health as a consultant physician. Minz enjoys spending time with his patients going through their conditions and management plans, promoting evidence-based medicine and patient disease awareness and health literacy.

Currently Minz supports CGH as an Acute Care Medicine Specialist taking all general medicine patients and has a special interest in Cardiology and Perioperative Care.

Currently Minz provide acute support to medical and critical care inpatients in addition to Cardiology Consulting services and Stress Testing outpatient clinics.

 

DR FUAD HAMEED

Dr. Fuad Hameed is an experienced geriatrician and general medicine physician with extensive experience in multiple posts for over 15 years. He has worked for the NHS (UK) in that capacity for over a decade offering his services to various trusts. He received his advanced specialty training in the North-East deanery in Scotland, acquiring his CCT (consultant accreditation in the UK) in 2007. He was then awarded the Fellowship of the Royal college of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2011. He got his FRACP in 2014 and has then worked in Australia and New Zealand as a consultant geriatrician to have a wider scope of practice with geriatric disorders. His particular interests include falls in the elderly (instability), movement disorders (like Parkinson’s disease etc.), frailty, chronic disease management, advanced care planning in addition to community geriatrics and intermediate care. He has also been involved in strategic planning at various levels to formulate and implement services for older people.

He is keen on making CGHS a center of excellence for health of older people in the time to come.

 

DR K SOMILA SILVA

Dr. Somila Silva completed his undergraduate (1996) and postgraduate (2004) as a Physician at University of Colombo. He has been working in different health care systems in Australia since 2004, including Alfred-Peninsula, Austin-Bendigo, Geelong- Western and Ballarat Health consortiums. He completed his FRACP exams and dual training in Internal medicine and Geriatric medicine and attained Fellowship from Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2013. He has been working as a consultant Geriatrician and General Physician at University Hospital Geelong since 2014.

His specialties/interests are cognitive assessments (Dementia), falls and balance assessments, comprehensive geriatric assessments and ortho geriatric assessments. I also have extensive experience in general medicine.

 

DR DIVYANSHU DUA

Dr Dua is a medical oncologist trained across Australia and UK. He attained his primary degree in India from Manipal Academy of Higher Education followed by initial senior house officer positions in the UK and eventually commencing FRACP in Adelaide South Australia. He completed his training with fellowship in early phase clinical trials and drug development. He was recruited from UK back to Australia and commenced as a staff specialist at the Mildura Base Hospital in Victoria as the first ever resident medical oncologist in 2014. He joined Canberra Hospital in June 2016 and finished in June 2023. He was the member of the TCH private practice fund for 2 years and chair for 1 year. He views the geriatric oncology service as his legacy which has provided exceptional oncology and geriatric multidisclipnary care under one clinic. The geriatric model developed at the Canberra hospital is unique in its sustainability and its applicability. This model was well acknowledged across the world. He has done multiple international poster presentations on this work. During his employment he did numerous oral and poster presentations including CHARM presentations at the Canberra Hospital. This has not been a solo effort but he sees this as a team effort with support from medical oncology, allied heath and geriatrics. He received multiple research grants via the TCH private practice fund during his employment.

Dr Dua’s special interests include thoracic malignancies including lung cancer, mesothelioma and thymoma. Genitourinary malignancies especially prostrate cancer, bladder, renal and testicular cancers. Breast cancer and metastatic melanoma. Dr Dua is happy for referrals to the following effect for diagnostic work up for cancer, medical oncology cancer surveillance (breast, melanoma, brain, lung and genitourinary), cancer related symptom management.

 

 

 

Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Dr Nuzhat Zia

Clinical Head of Unit

Dr. Nuzhat Zia has her MBBS from Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan.  She has her Diploma in Obstetrics from Royal College of Physicians in Ireland.  She has her fellowship from Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, England. She has also completed her fellowship from Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr. Zia is a member of British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) and Australian Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP).

Dr. Zia has an extensive experience in Obstetrics & Gynecology in Australia and overseas (Ireland, UK, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan)

Dr. Zia led the team which started Anunga Bibi Program which provides safe Obstetric care to all Aboriginal women in South Australia. This program was so successful that this model was followed in different parts of Australia.

Dr. Zia was also a lecturer and examiners with University of Adelaide Medical School. She was also appointed as a mentor for overseas specialists by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Her interests are to save motherhood, prevention strategies in Gynaecology, high risk pregnancy, sub fertility, Gynaecology surgery including laparoscopic procedures.

DR SANDHYA GUPTA

Experienced Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with 35 years of total clinical experience and around 30 years of progressive leadership and responsibility in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in large and small hospital networks. Sandhya is a strong believer of women centered care and is a passionate women advocate.  With a special focus on Gynaecologic laparoscopic surgery, high-risk obstetrics, cancer prevention strategies and subfertility with keen interest in Gynaecological Robotic Surgery. The various services include minimally invasive, traditional abdominal and vaginal surgery for a range of gynaecological conditions like endometriosis, PCOS, prolapse apart from colposcopy, termination of pregnancy, care during high-risk pregnancy etc.

She has basic and post-graduate degrees from India, England and Australia. She is a recipient of two gold medals during her under and postgraduate training. She is trained in advanced laparoscopy from University Hospitals Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel, Germany, a world-renowned Gynaecology Laparoscopic centre. Sandhya is a passionate educator, worked for 2 years as a Senior Lecturer in the Reproductive Health Unit at James Cook University. Conducted academics & training under-graduates, DNB and post-graduate students for last 30 years in various hospital appointments and conducting the MRCOG preparatory courses for last 10 years. She continues to enjoy teaching the trainees and medical students and is well appreciated. A very dedicated patient-centric clinician and women’s advocate for more than three decades with clinical and academic experience in Australia, India and Papua New Guinea. She has had an enriching clinical experience in varied settings including public and private as well as low-resource and some of the best quaternary institutes in the world. She is sensitive to socio-cultural diversities and innovative in challenging circumstances due to this varied experience. She established the Gynaecological laparoscopy unit and performed the first Laparoscopic Gynaecological surgery in PNG. Was also involved in the infection control committee of the hospital and the pilot project for the cervical cancer vaccine program for the country. Back in India and PNG, she helped create and implement various clinical protocols like Hysterectomy, cesarean section and vaginal birth clinical pathways. She worked as part of the tumor board team for multi-disciplinary management of all cancer patients.  She established the Lamaze antenatal classes in collaboration with the physiotherapy department. She has many publications to her credit including development of a device for safe episiotomy. Her most recent publications include original articles in international journals, the FIGO Fistula Manual and co-editor for the Textbook on Ambulatory Uro-gynaecology.

DR RADHA PANDIAN

Dr Pandian obtained her primary medical degree and postgraduate diploma in obstetrics and gynaecology in India obtaining her membership with RCOG (UK) in 2005. She has over 20 years of experience in O&G having worked in the United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong and India before settling in Australia in 2014 and obtaining her Fellowship with RANZCOG in August 2018. Her medical interests include obstetric care providing emergency care when required and general gynaecology. She has a special interest in open and vaginal hysterectomy with pelvic floor repair and treatment of pre invasive cervical cancer.

Paediatrics

DR MUSTAFA ADAMJI

Acting Clinical Head of Unit

Dr Adamji completed his medical training in New Zealand, having worked at multiple paediatric centres both rural/regional and urban centres, including Wellington, Auckland, and rural New Zealand such as Whakatane, Palmerston North. He received his FRCAP in 2019 and been working as a consultant since then. He has held various roles/positions as a Paediatrician, including supervision of inpatient and outpatient referrals, teaching students and junior doctors, oncall, coverage of ED/HDU departments, Community Referrals, Community Care. He has worked in the ambulatory setting providing outpatients consultation and inpatient care. His special interests include paediatric gastroenterology and general paediatrics.

 

DR DULSHANIE SILVA

Dr Silva has completed her primary medical education in University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Then she undertook her postgraduate in general paediatrics in Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Sri Lanka, Armadale Health Service in Western Australia, and Monash Health. She was a Paediatric registrar when she arrived in Australia in 2017. Since has worked as a Paediatric registrar and advanced trainee at Armadale Health Service in Western Australia, Dandenong Monash Health, Central Gippsland Heath.

Her field of special interest is developmental paediatrics.

 

DR ABRAHAM OOMMEN

Dr Oommen completed his paediatric training in the United Kingdom, obtained his FRCPCH in 2013 and has been a consultant in the NHS at Milton Keynes hospital for 20 years. His initial medical and paediatric training was in India and as a trainee in the UK, he was awarded an MD from the University of Leicester for research on preschool children with wheeze.

As a consultant, he has performed various roles such as lead for Asthma, High Dependency care and medical school teaching with the University of Buckingham.

His special interests include general paediatrics and paediatric asthma.
